Wednesday Vacation Blogging: Shanghai

Back in 2004, Mrs. Generik and I spent three weeks traveling around China. I posted some of these pictures on the one-year anniversary of that trip, but this time I'm concentrating on just one city, instead of the whole country at once. Look for more pictorials of some of the other cities we visited in the future.

Yuyuan Gardens, a large compound where ancient buildings, ornamental rock work and plant life are preserved.
The Pearl Tower and Pudong business district, representative of some of the best modern architecture in Shanghai.
While on the other side of the Huangpu River, colonial architecture dominates the scene along the Bund.
Everywhere we went in China, the parks were immaculate. Most charged a few yuan to get in; the money was used for the upkeep of the premises.
Some fun statuary near the Bund. The Pearl Tower is in the background.
Marx and Engels and a friend.
Duck!!
Mrs. Generik was the keeper of the map. She did a good job, too; we never got lost or felt uncomfortable traveling alone in the city.
Fresh fruits and vegetables...
Meats and fish and sausages...
And plenty of other, mostly unidentifiable foodstuffs, all on display in Old Town.
Shopping just outside of Old Town.
The stars at night are big and bright, deep in the heart of Shanghai! This was right across the street from our hotel. One thing the Chinese people really get right is lighting.
The Bund at night.
Mrs. G takes a smoke break while photographing the scene.
"Where do you put the quarter in this thing?"
Public art is big in Shanghai. (Will I ever get tired of using that joke? No.)
I make a friend outside Yuyuan Gardens.
One of the pagodas inside Yuyuan Gardens.
Off to another adventure!
