Cindy vs. Hillary

Anti-war activist and slain soldier's mom Cindy Sheehan has had some harsh words lately not only for Preznit Jingo and his Flying Monkey Circus, but for Hillary Clinton and other war-supporting Democrats as well. (Also look here.) I say good for her for speaking out, and I applaud her for taking it to politicians on both sides of the aisle. Those of us who opposed the war in Iraq from the beginning have found ourselves vindicated in our position, what with the lack of WMD there, the fierce opposition to our presence that continues and gets more violent by the day and the growing realization on the part of the American public that we were lied to in the first place and that the Bushists have no viable exit strategy. I said at the time that it was a mistake for Democrats to cravenly cede the power to make war to a chief executive with no clue what war is really about, and that it was only done as a blatant CYA tactic by politicians afraid of being tarred with the "not patriotic" brush. For those who voted in favor of going to war -- like Hillary, like Joe Lieberman, like far too many other Democrats -- to still be talking about how it was the right thing to do (or, just as bad, to remain silent on the issue) in the face of mounting evidence that it was exactly the wrong thing to do is unconscionable. The people in this country are out in front on the issue -- they know that we're in a big mess over there and that it needs to end. All the Democrats (hell, all the Republicans, too, though that will never happen) who voted for the war should come out publicly and admit that they made a mistake, that they were misled, that they were simply trying to support the troops, whatever the case may be, but that they now realize that it was the wrong thing to do and that we need to find a way to get out and get out soon. Like now.

You go, Cindy.
